Introduction:
What happened in Mumbai last week was definitely a wake up call for a lot of us.
While I saw millions of Indians raising up in arms against the government, I made a few observations.
1) Most of this voices were disunited and should great concern for the system.
2) All these voices demanded action, but clearly what the action this has to be is not known.
3) All these voices were not united, even though the souls were.
But the good part is that all of us know its time for some change. As I see it there are two areas that we can seek action from.
1) Action from within(India).
2) Action outside(demanding Pakistan to act).
Clearly, 1) is within our control while 2) is not.
So lets chose to act on the first one. This movement should not be the one that raises and dies with anger and emotions. Let this be sustainable, feasible and attainable.
Today we know our politicians don’t care squat about the show of solidarity on Wednesday simply becoz
1) they know that the voice of anger and emotions is transient.
2) This voice is not the true vote bank the one that will go out and vote.
3) This voice is not united in its demand.
My vision for action is simple.
1) As a first step, lets all unite and put forth a list of demands from this government. First at ISB lets speak in one voice.
2) Lets make a call for all our friends in the corporate world and universities for a similar such list. Lets evolve one list across thousands that will force the politicians to include in their manifesto and act.
3) Lets all pledge to go out and vote that party that will atleast execute a part of this list.
Remember,
1) Demanding drastic actions and calls for wars don’t help anyone.
2) Democracy is a powerful weapon that when used sensibly can bring about a definitive change.
3) All should go out and exercise this.
Honestly, I don’t expect this movement to be successful in this election. But atleast this should be a precursor that when united a force can be so powerful that it can be ignored anymore.
That’s why I would like to call it Uprising: A war for liberation to live.
